Evidence of Photoshop: Digipak

Creating a digipak:

I created my Digipak using Photoshop CS6 so that I was able to enhance pictures as well as create a professional piece suitable for my girl band.

I downloaded this digipak template from a website called 'Discmakers' so that my digigpak would work and accurately fold together.

This is the front cover of my digipak. When making my digipak I individually created each page so that I was able to focus solely on each section ensuring that they were each as professional as possible. I done this by selecting the rectangular marquee tool on photoshop, highlighting the section I was designing and then copy and pasting (command C) this into a new page. I opened up a new page on final cut by pressing file and new in the top left hand corner of the screen. I then very slightly edited my chosen image using the spot healing brush tool, to remove any marks or imperfections on the girls skin. Doing this ensured that my images look professional, providing the image with a finished look. I then added text using the type tool and changed the font size and letter distance in the right hand corner. I decided to make the letter N bigger as well as a different colour so that it would stand out from the rest of the letter, also creating a connection between the logo to maintain consistency. To create the N I chose Chalkduster from the list of fonts, and then used the colour pallet to change the colour to orange. To write 'WILD' I chose the font Phosphate so that the title was bold and able to stand out against the dark and busy background behind it. I then over the top applied an effect to create a connection between the paint stain at the top of the screen. This was done by selecting brush on the right of the screen and then selecting watercolour spatter paint drops from the brush presets and changing the colour of the marks to clear so that they acted as a mask. Doing this allowed the maintenance of consistency throughout the front cover while also allowing the title to stand out. I also decided to add a sticker to publish my music video to 'Power' by Little Mix. To do this I used the shape tool, and inserted a rounded rectangle and creating a gradient of colour using grey/white so that it would appear shiny. Doing this means it appears like a sticker, therefore standing out as separate to the front cover. So that the writing appeared to be behind Emily's head I selected the mask tool on photoshop, and then choose the black paint tool to bring forward parts of her hair.

I continued to do this copy and paste of each page from the template to ensure each page was of a high enough standard. To create the spines and match the orange to that of the title to maintain consistency I copied the template onto a new page, and then chose the paint bucket fill tool, and selected the colour tool from the top right hand corner. To exactly match the colour I then held a cursor over where orange had been already used, allowing me to find this colour exactly. If I hadn't of done this my digipak would have become confusing and messy, with each page looking separate and individualised. The extra page, in the top left hand corner of the digipak was created by inserting four individual images, and pressing command and T and then holding shift to make the images fit to size without stretching or altering the picture. I rotated images and flipped them so all of the girls appeared to be looking into the centre where the logo is present to show each band member as an individual however, to group together as Nouveau Riche. In order to create the logo of NR I used the same font as the title to maintain consistency. I then used the mask tool to remove some of the R so that it appeared that the N was going through the R. This was so that the logo was maintained simple, however still interesting and able to be easily remembered and recognised.

I also decided to add a pocket into the digipak so that a promotional poster could be added. This poster was so that I was able to directly target my audience. To create this section, I had to separately cut out using the magic wand the orange section of the pocket so that I was able to add text. This text is repetitive of the song list on the back cover, maintaining consistency and allowing a connection between the different pages. I then added paint marks across the digipak by downloading these from the internet and then using the mask tool, to change and alter them to the exact shape I wanted. Once again to ensure this was the correct orange, I used the paint bucket tool to select the exact colour.

Promotional poster:

This is the image I used for my promotional poster to be included in with my digipak. I used Photoshop CS6 to blur out any spots or marks on the girls faces, adapting the images and brightening specific aspects in order to produce a professional product. I included this additional poster to the digipak so that I was able to directly target my audience that consists mostly of young girls. I used photoshop also to match the font and colours used in the digipak to maintain consistency allowing for this band to be remembered for their name and logo that is continuously shown.
