While preparing and brainstorming ideas for a music video, many films, TV shows and also social media posts have influenced my ideas and plans and what I will use during the creating of the music video, from settings, to lighting, as well as what the video itself will consist of.
A TV programme that massivly influenced my ideas and decisions for when it came to creating a music video was Dance Moms, this is an American reality TV programme where a group of young individuals perform within dance competitions and during lessons to show off their best abilities. While watching this I realised that the song in which I have chosen is suitable for a dance. Its up-beat pace and the lively energy it portrays would fit well with a lively and excitable up-beat dance. Dance Moms therefore provided me with the idea of using dance within the video in order to portray the positivity of the music and ensure the vibe while watching the video meets the excitment that is represented through the music. Dance Moms allowed me to realise the way in which dance can be used to express the meaning of music, and the emotion within it, and therefore a dance choreography would fit well with Little Mix's 'Power' in order to portray emotion and the meaning behind the song.
'Christmas with the Kranks' is a film also based in America that I found influencial when planning for my music video. It is based upon a family and many friends and neighbours coming together for a party during the Christmas season. During the time I was planning my music video this film was on TV, and the Christmas setting and bright fairy lights within the film, seemed to be suitable for the up-beat atmosphere I aimed to create within the video. Christmas is seen as a jolly time of the year, and therefore showing Christmas lights within the video would be ideal to symbolise positivity. The film being about coming together also provided me with the idea of the girls seeming like they were all coming together to dance in the video, showing a sense of community and a string bond amongst females to portray their strength and power, further linking the shots to the music.
The idea of using Christmas lights then comes alongside with the idea of filming dance shots in central London. While thinking up ideas I came across a tag on instagram about Christmas in London, showing many images of the lights, and highlighting the community that exists during the busy night time streets of London. Instagram was therefore influencial in my decission to base some of the dancing shots within central London, as not only does it provide the bright and well lit setting, full of Christmas lights and an extremely positive atmosphere, but it also shows a sesne of community, bringing life and excitment into the video through the busy streets, allowing the shots to fit into the pace of the song.
Overall, a number of media platforms, not just being music videos, provided me with ideas in which would later be used in my music video.
