Influences for my music video:
Influences for my music video:

While preparing and brainstorming ideas for a music video, many films, TV shows and also social media posts have influenced my ideas and plans and what I will use during the creating of the music video, from settings, to lighting, as well as what the video itself will consist of.
A TV programme that massivly influenced my ideas and decisions for when it came to creating a music video was Dance Moms, this is an American reality TV programme where a group of young individuals perform within dance competitions and during lessons to show off their best abilities. While watching this I realised that the song in which I have chosen is suitable for a dance. Its up-beat pace and the lively energy it portrays would fit well with a lively and excitable up-beat dance. Dance Moms therefore provided me with the idea of using dance within the video in order to portray the positivity of the music and ensure the vibe while watching the video meets the excitment that is represented through the music. Dance Moms allowed me to realise the way in which dance can be used to express the meaning of music, and the emotion within it, and therefore a dance choreography would fit well with Little Mix's 'Power' in order to portray emotion and the meaning behind the song.
'Christmas with the Kranks' is a film also based in America that I found influencial when planning for my music video. It is based upon a family and many friends and neighbours coming together for a party during the Christmas season. During the time I was planning my music video this film was on TV, and the Christmas setting and bright fairy lights within the film, seemed to be suitable for the up-beat atmosphere I aimed to create within the video. Christmas is seen as a jolly time of the year, and therefore showing Christmas lights within the video would be ideal to symbolise positivity. The film being about coming together also provided me with the idea of the girls seeming like they were all coming together to dance in the video, showing a sense of community and a string bond amongst females to portray their strength and power, further linking the shots to the music.
The idea of using Christmas lights then comes alongside with the idea of filming dance shots in central London. While thinking up ideas I came across a tag on instagram about Christmas in London, showing many images of the lights, and highlighting the community that exists during the busy night time streets of London. Instagram was therefore influencial in my decission to base some of the dancing shots within central London, as not only does it provide the bright and well lit setting, full of Christmas lights and an extremely positive atmosphere, but it also shows a sesne of community, bringing life and excitment into the video through the busy streets, allowing the shots to fit into the pace of the song.
Overall, a number of media platforms, not just being music videos, provided me with ideas in which would later be used in my music video.

Meeting minutes:
Meeting minutes:
We used a number of social media sites so that myslef, Rediola, and
also the band members were able to communicate with each other. Doing this meant everyone was able to understand what was happening and when things were happening. It also meant that if there were any changes, everyone would be made aware of them through these group chats, making everything easier.
Snapchat was a very simple method of communication between the group as a whole because similarly to whatsapp it allowed for extremely simple communication between six people.
Without being able to use these networks it would be really difficult to ensure that everyone was able to do things with such a large group of people.

Target audience questionnaire:
Target audience questionnaire:
As part of my research I interviewed a member of my target audience to develop a clearer understanding of their likes and dislikes so that I will be able to make my music video specific to those who will be watching it, and fit into all of their likes and dislikes.
Understanding what Maylita likes to see within a music video, provided me with ideas of how to make my video suitable to individuals within my target audience catogry. Maylita stated that she likes to see dance routines or lots of moving around within pop music videos. This gave me the idea of creating a choreographed dance for the video, ensuring that it is kept up beat and that the visuals on screen fit in with the pace of the music heard.
She also stated that she would expect to see brands within pop music videos, as a result to how current pop music videos are, therefore within my music video I aim to include nee and 'trendy' clothing, for examle Nike and Adidas trainers, as well as branded coats. I hopefully aim to ensure Gio, the rapper within the video will wear a branded coat so that members of the audience are able to connect with the band members through clothing, or even relate to what can be seen.
Another thing discussed within the interview is the idea of close ups to show makeup, within my video I therefore aim to include close ups so that the band members can become recognisable as well as to allow young female members of the audience to see and possibly imitate the makeup shown. Including close ups will mean that each band member is noticed within the video, allowing each individual to create an audience and sperate fan group.
I am to promote self confidence through my band by creating the idea of ordinary individals through usual clothing such as jeans and bright tshirts. This will allow young members of the audience to connect with the band members and to look up to these indivuduals that are seen as genuine and real.
Finally I will post my music video and youtube, this will mean it is accesible to indivudals who like to watch music videos at home with friends and family members, for example Maylita, ensuring the video is easily accesible to all members of my target audience.

Using online tutorials:
Online tutorials:
In order to widen my knowledge of new techniques to use when editing my music video, I watched various YouTube tutorials of how to do specific things. One technique I found that may be useful within my music video is the Bad TV effect, this could be used on the graffiti shots, in order to break up the footage and make it slightly more interesting.

Casting:
Casting:
In order to decide who would play the main roles within our music video to 'Power' by Little Mix, we carried out a casting session so that we were able to choose the most professional and confident individuals from a group of people. We decided to ask some friends who are involved within a dance company, as well as few of them attend singing and drama classes so that we were able to ensure they would allow our music video to thrive, and represent the real star qualities of professional artists.
Myself and Rediola, have chosen to use the three people closest to the camera, this includes the girl in the red tshirt, and the two girls on the right hand side wearing black. These individuals have been chosen as we find that they match the expectation of a music video and fit in with the typical catogries on the market. They all also represent the ability to dance with professionalism as well as with confidence showing they will be able to perform confidently while being filmed. Each of the girls also show independence while dancing, allowing each of them to be able to hold the star icongoraphy necessary within a music video.
The girl on the left is the final individual that we have chosen to dance within the music video, and similarly to the other three she attends the same dance school allowing her to represent the confidence neccesary. We also think she firs the part perfectly as she allows us to have diversty within the video. She will also allow the video to contain individuality and difference between all of the characters as overall we will have to girls with straight hair, and two girls with curly hair, as well as hair varying in colour for each of the individuals.

Slow motion shoot:
Slow motion technique:
This is an example of the use of slow motion that we have practised before possibly using within our real music video. I have found that using slow motion creates a focus on the individual possibly in order to create a star iconography.

Representation of men and women in music videos:
Representation of men and women:
From looking through numerous music videos I have begun to notice a trend between how men and women are presented through the video depending on the gender of the artist performing. Women typically wear revealing clothing, however, the purpose of doing so clearly is suggestive of different things depending on the context of the video.
Beyonce's 'Run the World' is a clear example of where females present power within a video. The females dancing within the video, in little clothing, for example short skirts and stockings present the females to be confident within themselves and thereofore encouraging young girls to follow a similar confident nature. However, the revealing costumes could be seen to sexualise females, encouring young girls with the wrong behaviours. The lyrics 'Run the world girls' represents the control that females have throughout the music industry, and how music acts as a platform for female independence. The shot of Beyonce holding onto two chains with animals on the end represents Beyonce to be powerful and almost firsty, empowering female members of the audience. The men within this example however, are still suggested to be strong, as a result to the army costume and props highlihgted, although, they duplicate the girls dance routune as well as are surrounded by the females, allowing them to seem controled by the females, maybe not phyically in terms of strenght, however emotionally.
Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' is another example of where females are presented with power and independence within music videos. Similarly to 'Run The World' the little clothing and dancing presented indicates confidence amongst the female performers. While the lack of men within the video allows them to be presented as weaker. A dance sequence shows the females to be working together and working as a team, presenting female power, as they work against men suggested by the lyrics 'if you like it then you should've put a ring on it'. Both the lyrics and video are suggestive that the females are disregarding men, and causing males to appear stupid, immature and annoying to women. The dark eye make-up on the women, could act to show control, as well as present the women to be fiesty.
Music produced by males however, present slighly different attitudes towards differences between men and women within their music videos. An example of this is 'Bacon' by Nick Jonas. Men within this music video are presented with more control, and are shown to be masculine and strong as the two boys 'spud' each others fists at the beginning. The females in the video however, are shown as waitresses or sexualised, allowing females to be seen as more vulnerable and therefore weaker. The females within the video are also the backing dancers adding to the voyeristic nature of the video for male viewers, for example by swinging their tshirts, acting like stripers.
It is clear that men are presented as dominating when the artsit themselves are males, whereas women will present themselves as powerful when the artists are female. Women within all music videos are sexualised through the revealing clothing worn, however the reasoning changes from either as a method of showing confidence, or in order to attract male viewers.
